KOBE (Kyodo) The Orix Buffaloes have nearly reached an agreement to acquire infielder Fernando Seguignol, who played for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles until last season, team sources said on Tuesday.

Senior team official Yoshio Murayama said Orix sent a contract agreement to the 35-year-old about three days ago.

Seguignol joined Orix in 2002 and won the home run title after hitting 44 homers with the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters in 2004. He has recorded a total of 172 home runs over seven seasons in Japan.

Orix slugger Alex Cabrera, and infielders Greg LaRocca and Aarom Baldiris are each sidelined with injuries.
