The Estonian giant, who at 187 kg is the heaviest in the elite makuuchi division, got a slow jump at the faceoff and found himself in retreat but quickly used his massive arms to swat the sekiwake forward to the sandy surface at Ryogoku Kokugikan.
Hakuho made short work of former sekiwake Wakanosato in the day's final.
Looking for his 14th career Emperor's Cup here, Hakuho is on a 23-bout winning streak. Shimotori, a No. 15 maegashira, is also at 6-0 in the three-way tie.
In other action, veteran Kaio (4-2) remained five wins shy of his 1,000th career victory after he was bundled over the edge by Kotoshogiku, who improved to 3-3.
Ozeki Kotomitsuki steamrolled Homasho after the winless No. 2 maegashira tried an ill-advised "henka" sidestep maneuver at the faceoff, improving to an even 3-3.
