Yokozuna Hakuho dismissed Toyonoshima in dominant fashion on the second day of action at the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament on Monday.
In the day's finale, Hakuho got his right hand on the back of Toyonoshima's belt and waited for the perfect moment to send the top-ranked maegashira sprawling with an underarm technique at Ryogoku Kokugikan. Toyonoshima fell to 0-2.
Hakuho extended his winning streak to 19 straight bouts.
Ozeki Baruto (2-0), who was promoted to sumo's second-highest rank after posting an impressive 14-1 record in March, got taken slightly off guard by Homasho (0-2) at the faceoff when the No. 2 maegashira darted to the side.
But the Estonian man mountain recovered nicely before twisting near the edge to heave his opponent out by the belt to stay even with the lone yokozuna. Baruto aims to become the second European after Bulgarian ozeki Kotooshu to win a title.
Harumafuji and Kotomitsuki were sent to their second consecutive defeats, while the remaining three ozeki each walked away in the winner's circle.
