The Toyama Grouses closed out their disappointing season with a 73-72 victory over the Tokyo Apache on Friday night at Yoyogi National Gymnasium No. 2.
Bilal Abdullah scored the winning basket with 13 seconds remaining. The Apache missed potential tying and winning shots down the stretch.
Tokyo's Julius Ashby had given his club a short-lived 72-71 lead with 31 seconds remaining.
In a back-and-forth fourth quarter, the score was tied at 62-62, 64-64, 66-66 and 68-68. Takeshi Mito, who had 17 points and five assists for the Grouses (17-35), drained a 3-pointer to give his team a 71-70 lead with 56 seconds left.
Brian Harper had a team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds for Toyama.
Michael Chappell paced the Apache (22-30) with 19 points, while Ashby added 14 points and grabbed 14 boards.
