Hideki Matsui singled in the winning run in the ninth inning to give the Los Angeles Angels a 4-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.

With runners on first and second and one out, Matsui lined a 2-0 fastball from left-handed reliever Craig Breslow down the right-field line, snapping his new team's four-game losing streak.

It was his third hit of the night at Angel Stadium. The designated hitter had an RBI double and a single earlier.

"With two balls and no strikes, I just waited for a good pitch to hit," Matsui said. "As soon as I connected, I knew it would drop in for a hit. It was nice to watch my teammates come out for the celebrations."

At Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Ichiro Suzuki went 2-for-5 with an RBI single in a three-run ninth inning that led to the Seattle Mariners' 4-3 come-from-behind win over Texas.

The Mariners won for the first time in five games.

Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Akinori Iwamura and Chicago Cubs outfielder Kosuke Fukudome each hit two-run homers in their respective games.

Iwamura also had a single and finished 2-for-4 in the Pirates' 6-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fukudome was 1-for-4 as the Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-3.

Boston Red Sox right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka, now on the disabled list with a neck strain, threw five shutout innings in a minor league assignment.
