FUKUOKA (Kyodo) Tsuyoshi Wada struck out four batters in two innings of work as the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks beat the Hiroshima Carp 6-1 in a preseason game Friday.
Wada did not allow a hit and walked two before five other pitchers held the Carp to three hits the rest of the way at Yahoo Dome.
Jose Ortiz hit a two-run homer in the third inning and Nobuhiro Matsuda added a solo shot in the fifth among his two hits.
Hiroshima lefty Jumpei Shinoda, vying for a spot in the rotation, walked four and gave up three runs in three innings.
