American Thomas Wisman, who has a wealth of experience in coaching international basketball, has secured the head coach's job for the men's national team, the Japan Basketball Association said on Monday.

The association had already short-listed Wisman, who has coached the Japan Basketball League's Link Tochigi Brex since 2008. Terms of his contract will be worked out in the coming days.

Wisman, 60, who hails from Illinois, has been the head coach of the British and Malaysian men's national teams in the past. He also coached Isuzu Motors, a former JBL team, from 1997-2002.

Known for his theoretical coaching style, Wisman had guided the Brex, featuring former NBA player Yuta Tabuse into second place with a 20-12 record as of Monday.
