LOS ANGELES (AP) Amir Khan, the WBA lightweight champion from Britain, has signed with Golden Boy Promotions to raise his American profile.
Khan (22-1, 16 KOs) won a silver medal at the Athens Olympics before turning pro with veteran British promoter Frank Warren. After training in California with Freddie Roach for his most recent fight, Khan has split with Warren to join fellow English stars David Haye and Ricky Hatton in Oscar De La Hoya's promotional company.
"Amir Khan is one of the most talented fighters in the world at any weight," De La Hoya said in a statement. "That talent, combined with his charismatic and outgoing personality, makes him a promoter's dream, and I feel will one day lead him to being the face of boxing."
