JOHANNESBURG (AP) South Africa increased its first innings lead to 144 runs at lunch on the third day of the fourth test against England on Saturday, overcoming the loss off three wickets for the addition of 20 runs in the first 10 overs of the day.

The Proteas resumed on 215-2 overnight, and reached the end of the first session on 324-5, having added 109 runs in 33.4 overs.

England began the day superbly, with Stuart Broad inducing Hashim Amla to edge an attempted drive to be caught by wicketkeeper Matt Prior off the 10th ball of the day.
