Japan defender Marcus Tulio Tanaka is set to join Nagoya Grampus, soccer sources said Sunday.

The Brazilian-born 28-year-old has always wished to play abroad but is prepared to become a member of Grampus, whose offer exceeded those of other suitors, the sources said.

Clubs in Europe and the Middle East have shown interest in acquiring him.

Tulio spent the last six seasons with Urawa Reds. The Saitama club captured its first J. League title in 2006 and the Asian Champions League crown a year later.

He obtained Japanese nationality in 2003 and has played for Japan since 2006.

His deal is expected to be announced shortly after it is finalized.
