OITA (Kyodo) Hiroshi Mizohata will resign as club president of debt-ridden J. League side Oita Trinita, it was learned Friday.

Relegated Oita was on the verge of bankruptcy before securing earlier this week a rescue package worth around ¥600 million from a special J. League fund set aside for clubs facing financial difficulties.

Mizohata is stepping down to take responsibility for Oita's plight and a formal announcement was set to be made at a news conference later Friday.
