Shozo Doi, a member of the Yomiuri Giants team that won nine consecutive Japan Series titles from 1965-73, has died, his family said Friday. He was 67.

A native of Hyogo Prefecture, Doi underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer in March 2007.

Doi spent his entire 14-year playing career with the Giants from 1965.

He played second base and batted second, with Sadaharu Oh and Shigeo Nagashima in the heart of the lineup. He was a .263 career hitter with 65 homers and 425 RBIs in 1,586 games.

Starting in 1991, Doi served as the Orix BlueWave manager for three years. He was Ichiro Suzuki's first pro manager.
