FUKUOKA (Kyodo) Former Fukuoka Softbank Hawks manager Sadaharu Oh underwent surgery on Monday for intestinal blockage and also had his gallbladder removed, Hawks public relations officer Hiroshi Kimura said Tuesday.

Both procedures conducted on Nippon Professional Baseball's all-time home run king at a Tokyo hospital were successfully completed, the team said. Oh, 69, had his stomach removed in a successful operation in July 2006 after he was diagnosed with stomach cancer.

"It was the first time he has had chronic gallstones and intestinal blockage. It has nothing to do with cancer," said Kimura, dismissing any concerns that his cancer has spread.

According to Softbank, Oh began complaining of pain in his abdomen around Sept. 11 and was hospitalized to undergo tests on Sept. 14.

Doctors performed endoscopic surgery after discovering on Saturday chronic gallstones and an internal hernia. He will likely be released from the hospital in about 10 days.
