Hakuho continued his sheer dominance to claim his third victim in the form of Georgian Tochinoshin, while Asashoryu knocked off Miyabiyama as both yokozuna remained perfect at the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament on Tuesday.
In the day's final bout at Ryogoku Kokugikan, Hakuho wasted little time overpowering Tochinoshin, steamrolling over the winless No. 1 maegashira to improve to 3-0. Eight wrestlers are undefeated after three days at the Tokyo meet.
Hakuho is gunning for back-to-back titles here after coming off a stellar 14-1 showing that clinched the Nagoya title in July. A 12th title win would put him in a tie with former yokozuna Futabayama.
Asashoryu, looking for his first title in three meets, smacked Miyabiyama (0-3) across the face at the faceoff before sending the No. 1 maegashira sprawling with a side-step maneuver.
The yokozuna's preparations for the 15-day meet were hampered by a right knee injury. Asashoryu is seeking his 24th Emperor's Cup.
In other key bouts, ozeki Kotomitsuki took control from start to finish against winless Tamanoshima, getting both hands firmly on his opponent's belt before heaving him over to also pick up a third win.
Meanwhile, Sadogatake ozeki stablemate Kotooshu (3-0) of Bulgaria trounced winless Shotenro, also showing a confident display as he waltzed out the No. 2 maegashira in a matter of seconds.
After an outstanding 13-2 showing in Nagoya, Kotooshu continues to make inroads toward winning a second career title.
In the day's only upset, Estonian giant Baruto manhandled Chiyotaikai in a quick frontal takeout, improving his mark to 2-1 while leaving the battle-worn ozeki on 1-2.
Ozeki Kaio, competing in his record-tying 97th tournament in the elite makuuchi division, swatted komusubi Aminishiki (0-3) like a flea to improve to 2-1.
