Japan Football Association President Motoaki Inukai is set to lead the charge as the committee chief in the bid to stage either the 2018 or 2022 World Cups.

According to JFA sources, a plan had been worked out by Thursday to put Inukai at the helm and the JFA proposes making a formal decision on his appointment at a board meeting on Sept. 10.

When Japan cohosted the 2002 World Cup with South Korea, a bidding committee chief was appointed from the business world.

But the JFA is making preparations to take a leadership role this time as it awaits the outcome of Tokyo's bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics, which might influence its chances to bring the World Cup back to Japan.
