Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Hiroki Kuroda could be a consideration to start against the San Diego Padres on Sunday, Dodgers manager Joe Torre said Monday.

Kuroda, who was placed on the disabled list with a mild concussion retroactive to Aug. 16, was to make a rehab start for Class-A Inland Empire on Tuesday.

"If that (rehab outing) goes well, he'll be a consideration for Sunday," Torre said, adding that the 34-year-old's pitch count will be monitored during the game.

"It's probably not going to be cut back that much because he hasn't been gone that long," Torre said.

Kuroda threw a successful simulated game on Saturday, facing live batters for the first time since being hit in the head by a line drive in a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Aug. 15.

"All I have to do is focus on pitching. I have to get a feeling of facing batters again," Kuroda said after throwing 21 pitches in Monday's bullpen session.
