FORT MYERS, Fla. (Kyodo) Boston Red Sox right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka on Monday finally did what he used to do in Japan, throwing a lot of pitches in the bullpen to maintain arm strength.

Matsuzaka, currently on a rehab assignment in Florida, threw 130 pitches at the team's minor league complex in Fort Myers after being allowed to throw about 125 pitches.

He will have another bullpen session Thursday and pitch two innings in a Single-A game four days later.

"I was able to pitch like this in practice for the first time since I came to the States," Matsuzaka said. "I put forth all my strength just before reaching 100. I still felt strong. I have no problem with stamina."
