LOS ANGELES (Kyodo) The Los Angeles Clippers have decided not to invite Japanese point guard Yuta Tabuse to participate in the NBA Summer League although he could join team training in September, it was learned Monday.

Tabuse, the only Japanese ever to have played in the NBA, signed for the Clippers in 2005 but was waived just before the start of the NBA season.

Clippers assistant general manager Neil Olshey said the team had wanted to take another look at Tabuse but cited an injury as the reason he was not called in for Summer League.

Aiming to make a comeback to the world's biggest stage, Tabuse received an invitation from the Dallas Mavericks to take part in a two-day mini camp earlier this month but was forced to miss out because of a heel injury.
