JOHANNESBURG (Kyodo) Japan looks set to pick George as its base camp for next year's World Cup finals in South Africa, it was learned Saturday.

A FIFA official familiar with the move said George had emerged as the favorite among three potential venues Japan has been looking at to set up camp.

Situated in South Africa's Western Cape Province, George is a popular holiday and conference center and the administrative and commercial hub of the Garden Route.

The accommodation Japan has earmarked is situated close to the airport. It has private function rooms, is equipped with training facilities and a spa and boasts top-level security.

"We have already given our three choices to FIFA. It's first come first served, so if we if make a decision then we can come here to stay," Japan coach Takeshi Okada said after inspecting the site.
