The South Korea men's national team defeated Japan 68-58 in the East Asia Basketball Championship title game on Sunday in Komaki, Aichi Prefecture.
Both nations had already qualified for next month's FIBA Asia Championship in Tianjin, China, keeping alive their goal of playing in the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey.
Japan shot 3-for-15 from 3-point range and 14-for-37 on 2-point shots. Kosuke Takeuchi scored a team-best 14 points and 12 rebounds, while twin brother Joji Takeuchi added 12 points and 10 boards and Takehiko Orimo had an 11-point performance.
Forward/center Kim Minsoo had a team-best 16 points for South Korea.
South Korea committed nine turnovers in the game, while Japan turned the ball over 16 times.
Japan made 21 of 30 free-throw attempts, while South Korea shot 21-for-25 at the charity stripe.
