After Jeff Newton had a jaw-dropping performance — 40 points, 30 rebounds, five assists, four steals, three blocks — in Saturday's double-overtime victory, a Sunday encore was a tall task for the Ryukyu Golden Kings star. Yet he still had a stellar outing (17 points, 16 rebounds) in the Golden Kings' second home victory over the Sendai 89ers in as many days in Okinawa.
Newton is the Circle K Sunkus Player of the Week, the bj-league announced on Tuesday.
The former Indiana University and Osaka Evessa standout has helped Ryukyu (11-1) ascend to the top of the Western Conference standings. He is the league's fourth-leading scorer (23.5 points per game) and is third in rebounds (13.8).
