Senior shooting guard K.J. Matsui and Columbia University ushered in the 2008-09 college basketball season with a 65-62 victory over Fordham University on Friday evening in New York.
Matsui, a Tokyo native, had an off-night as a shooter (1-for-7 from 3-point range) and three points, but he picked up four rebounds and two steals and had one assist in the Lions' season-opening win.
