Mongolian Hakuho reclaimed the prestigious yokozuna east slot for the first time in three meets as the Japan Sumo Association released the rankings for the upcoming Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament on Monday.
Hakuho closed out the Nagoya meet in July with a perfect 15-0 mark for only the second time in his career, and heads up the east side while Asashoryu, who pulled out in Nagoya with an injury, returns to the west side for the Sept. 14-28 meet at Ryogoku Kokugikan.
Chiyotaikai and Kaio will be wrestling as ozeki for the 58th and 49th consecutive meets, respectively, while for the first time in a year there will be no ozeki wrestling to save their rank in the 15-day basho.
Elsewhere in the upper echelons, Toyonoshima, who scored an impressive 10-5 mark in Nagoya, will be making his debut at sumo's third rank of sekiwake while Estonian giant Baruto is a new komusubi on the back of an identical showing at Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium.
