NEW YORK (Kyodo) The San Diego Padres were set to officially announce Monday that they will release second baseman Tadahito Iguchi, Major League Baseball reported on its Web site Sunday.

The report quoted a team source as confirming Sunday that Iguchi was told of his release after San Diego defeated the Colorado Rockies, 2-1, at PETCO Park.

Iguchi signed a one-year deal worth $3.75 million in the offseason.

He was hitting .231 with two home runs and 24 RBIs in 81 games. He missed 47 games earlier in the season with a separated right shoulder.

Iguchi was hitting .125 in 64 at-bats since returning from the disabled list.
