Kota Nakao broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the 12th inning with a two-out RBI single as Kagoshima Jitsugyo held off Miyazaki Shogyo 4-1 in the second round of the National High School Championship on Sunday.

Ginga Uebo and Yuji Morita followed Nakao with run-scoring hits, helping the Kagoshima school advance to the third round for the first time in 12 years.

In other second-round action at Koshien Stadium, Daisuke Ujiie went 3-for-3 and drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning as Hyogo's Hotoku Gakuen edged Chiben Gakuen of Nara 5-4.

Tokyo's Kanto Daiichi downed Naruto Kogyo of Tokushima 5-2 after Masahide Hirose hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning and finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Suguru Miyahira went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, leading Okinawa's Urasoe Shogyo to a 12-9 victory over Chiba Keidai Fuzoku, a semifinalist in the national invitational tournament this past spring.
