BEIJING — Hiromi Miyake has never seen the weightlifting bronze medal her father and coach Yoshiyuki won at the 1968 Mexico Games.
So the stocky 48-kg class lifter figures it is time she won a medal to show him and become the third athlete in the Miyake family to make it onto the Olympic podium in the process.
Miyake, 22, is also relishing the prospect of winning Japan's first medal in Beijing when the weightlifting program gets under way on Saturday, the day after the opening ceremony.
