The Orix Buffaloes said Saturday acting manager Daijiro Oishi has been promoted to manager and will stay at the helm of the Pacific League club next year.

Oishi, 49, started the season as a top-team coach and steered the Buffaloes as acting manager after Terry Collins resigned as manager in May because of his team's lackluster performance.

Oishi has helped the Buffaloes regroup and climb into fourth place in the six-team league, increasing their chances of earning a place in the postseason Climax Series featuring the top three teams.
