The Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles have acquired former Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters designated hitter Fernando Seguignol and minor league right-hander Marcus Gwyn, the team said Tuesday.

Seguignol, who shared the 2004 Pacific League home run title with Nobuhiko Matsunaka of the then-Daiei Hawks after hitting 44 homers, is a career .274 hitter with 145 homers and 386 RBIs over five seasons in Japan with the Orix BlueWave in 2002 and Nippon Ham in 2004-2007.

Gwyn had a 1-0 record with five saves and a 4.09 ERA for the Florida Marlins' Triple-A affiliate at Albuquerque this year. He is 0-0 with a save and an 11.81 ERA in three major league appearances, all in 2007 for the Los Angeles Angels.

Both players have signed contracts worth ¥20 million plus performance-based incentives that run through the end of the current season, Rakuten said.
