NEW YORK (Kyodo) Los Angeles Dodgers closer Takashi Saito has been diagnosed with a sprained ligament in his right elbow, the club said Wednesday.

Saito is expected to be re-examined after about six weeks of rehabilitation while remaining on the disabled list, and he could be out for the season.

The 38-year-old right-hander left Saturday's game against the Florida Marlins with elbow tightness after striking out the first two batters of the ninth inning.
