Koju Munakata is the Toyota Motors Alvark's new head coach, replacing German Torsten Loibl, who coached the JBL team for the past two seasons. The Alvark made a formal announcement earlier this week.
Loibl coached the Alvark to a JBL Super League title in 2007 and a runnerup spot 2008. Munakata, 41, has served as an assistant coach for Toyota since 2005. As a point guard, Munakata, a native of Aomori Prefecture, was named an All-JBL Best Five player three times and helped Toyota win a pair of JBL titles.
