NEW YORK (Kyodo) The New York Yankees on Saturday optioned left-hander Kei Igawa to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of their interleague game against the New York Mets.

Igawa had just been recalled to the big leagues for the second time this year and threw a scoreless inning in relief in a 9-0 loss to the Mets in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday.

"I am a starting pitcher so even if I get results in relief that is just the way it goes. I told the (Yankees) manager and general manager that I will do my best the next time I am recalled to the majors," Igawa said.

Igawa is 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA in two games this season. He was rocked for six runs and 11 hits in three-plus innings in his first start of the season against the Detroit Tigers on May 9.
