Takuya Kimura hit a two-run, "sayonara" single with no outs in the 12th inning to lead the Yomiuri Giants to a 3-2 victory over the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks at Tokyo Dome.
Nobuhiro Matsuda homered in the top of the 12th off Shun Tono to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead.
Noriyoshi Omichi homered off Hawks starter Toshiya Sugiuchi with two out in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings. Sugiuchi (6-4), who was aiming for his fifth complete-game victory in seven starts didn't factor into the decision after allowing one run on six hits and striking out 12.
Nobuhiko Matsunaka got the Hawks on the board in the first inning with a sacrifice fly off Yomiuri starter Seth Greisinger to make the score 1-0.
Greisinger (6-5), who pitched seven innings of one-run ball, combined with four Yomiuri relievers to keep the Hawks from scoring again until Matsuda connected off Tono in the 12th.
