Ex-Japan volleyball national team player Kaoru Sugayama decided to call it quits, her club JT Marvelous announced on Friday.
The 29-year-old, who played as a libero and attacker, joined the team in 1999 and helped it finish runnerup in the 2006-07 season of the V. Premier League, Japan's top women's league.
The native of Miyagi Prefecture, who was called "Kaoru-hime" (princess Kaoru) for her appearance, played on the national squad since 2005.
"I was able to perform my best as I received cheering and encouraging letters from a lot of fans," Sugayama said.
