Tyrone Woods homered to break a scoreless tie and Kenshin Kawakami threw seven shutout innings for his first win of the season as the Chunichi Dragons edged the Yokohama BayStars 2-1 on Thursday.
Woods led off the sixth inning with a drive over the left-field wall off Takumi Nasuno (1-4) and Norihiro Nakamura made it 2-0 with an RBI double one out later in Central League action at Nagoya Dome.
Kawakami (1-1) allowed just two hits and struck out seven with two walks and two hit batsmen.
Yokohama got within a run in the eighth on a Shuichi Murata sacrifice fly off Chen Wei-yin and loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth against Hitoki Iwase. But the left-handed closer held on for his 10th save, getting Takuro Ishii on a game-ending groundout.
