KUALA LUMPUR (AP) Two players from Maldives club Victory SC were offered bribes to throw Wednesday's scheduled AFC Cup match against Singapore's Home United, the Asian Football Confederation said. The AFC said in a statement "it has been reliably reported to AFC that two foreign players of Victory SC were approached by an unidentified man in their hotel room and offered bribes to throw away the match." "We take these allegations very seriously and we will launch a full investigation to find out and establish the truth," AFC president Mohamed Bin Hammam said in a statement. "AFC is committed to rooting out corruption from the game and we will do everything possible to achieve this aim. "We will also alert FIFA to this incident and request the governing body of world football to join us in the investigation." Victory has three non-Maldives players in its current squad: Argentine pair Aguirre Daniel Marcos and Theiler Luciano — who had just signed with the club — and Paraguayan Jorge Armando Rodriguez Arguello. Victory's Web Site said Rodriguez did not accompany the squad to Singapore due to injury. The AFC Cup is an international competition between clubs from developing Asian nations. Victory SC is at the bottom of Group D after drawing one match and losing another, while Home United lead the table with six points from two wins.
