Kansas City Royals right-hander Hideo Nomo will miss Monday's major league season-opener against the Detroit Tigers because of injury. Royals manager Trey Hillman said Friday Nomo agreed to return to the Royals' camp in Surprise, Arizona, on Saturday to undergo treatment on a sore right leg. Nomo joined practice for the first time since hurting his leg on Tuesday and had hoped to throw from the mound while the Royals were in Milwaukee. But he just played catch for around an hour and was out of the lineup in the Royals 4-1 win against the Milwaukee Brewers. Nomo, who joined the Royals as a non-roster player in spring camp on a minor league contract, looked set to pitch out of the bullpen this season until sustaining the injury while pitching against the San Diego Padres.
