Kagoshima Kogyo and Heian of Kyoto, meanwhile, played out a 3-3 15-inning tie in the day's other third-round game at Koshien Stadium, forcing a replay under the tournament rules. Seibo Gakuen capitalized on defensive miscues to jump out to a 5-0 lead after two innings. In the final game of the day, Heian took leads of 2-0 in the seventh inning and 3-2 in the 10th before Kagoshima Kogyo came back each time to tie the game twice. Kagoshima Kogyo failed to break the deadlock after putting runners in scoring positions in the 14th and 15th. Kagoshima Kogyo right-hander Naohiro Uchimura went the distance on 194 pitches.
