Rookie right-hander Shota Oba threw a complete-game shutout in his first pro start Sunday as the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks pulled off a three-game sweep of the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in their season-opening series with a 4-0 victory.

Oba (1-0) scattered eight hits over the distance, struck out six and walked none in a 133-pitch outing at Yahoo Dome, getting the 22-year-old off to a dream start to his career.

Oba became the first pitcher in Pacific League history with no walks in a shutout performance in his first career start.
