Seisho of Aichi Prefecture scored two runs in an eighth-inning rally Saturday to beat Komadai Iwamizawa of Hokkaido 3-2 on the opening day of the National High School Invitational Tournament. Seisho, playing in the annual tournament for the first time in 36 years, tied the game at 2-2 on a bases-loaded single by Katsuhiro Kurauchi in the eighth inning before scoring the go-ahead run on a Ryota Maruyama RBI groundout at Koshien Stadium. In the day's other first-round action, Koshien debutant Awa of Chiba Prefecture broke a scoreless deadlock in the top of the ninth on a run-scoring triple by cleanup hitter Yuta Kashima en route to a 2-0 shutout of Kumamoto's Johoku. Kosuke Sano pitched a complete-game shutout for Awa.
