Ozeki Chiyotaikai pulled out of the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament on Saturday due to an injured right elbow. After aggravating the injury he suffered on the penultimate day of the Kyushu meet last November, Chiyotaikai was left virtually ineffective from the first day of the New Year meet and lost seven straight bouts for an 0-7 mark. The losing streak is the worst ever by an ozeki since the establishment of the six-tournament system in 1958. "I don't want him to show anyone such a miserable flop any longer. I'm hoping he will receive proper treatment as soon as possible and begin preparation for the next tournament," Chiyotaikai's stable master Kokonoe said.
