The Orix Buffaloes said Friday they have acquired right-hander Jeremy Powell on a one-year contract worth an estimated ¥55 million, plus performance-related incentives. The ex-Yomiuri Giant will play for Orix for the first time in three seasons, with the deal to be finalized over the next few days. Powell, 31, claimed a Pacific League title with 17 wins with the Kintetsu Buffaloes in 2002. In 2006, he joined Yomiuri but was released at the end of last season after suffering a right-knee injury.
