OSAKA (KYODO) The Orix Buffaloes said Wednesday they have reached an agreement for the acquisition of Venezuelan slugger Alex Cabrera, who left the Seibu Lions after talks on a new deal broke down earlier this offseason.

The one-year deal for the 36-year-old worth an estimated ¥250 million, plus performance incentives, comes with the caveat that the contract will be nullified in the event that a doping test to be conducted on Cabrera when he arrives in February turns out positive.

The deal is set to be finalized in the next few days. Last month, Cabrera's name appeared in a report published by former Sen. George Mitchell on the use of performance-enhancing substances by players who have played in the major leagues.
