Veteran right-hander Hideo Nomo has agreed to a minor-league contract with the Kansas City Royals, it was announced on Thursday. Nomo, 39, did not play in the major leagues in 2006 or last season. Nomo, the 1995 National League Rookie of the Year, has a 123-109 win-loss record since joining the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has also played for the Mets, Brewers, Red Sox, Tigers and Devil Rays since leaving Japan. During this past offseason, he pitched in the Venezuelan Winter League. "He's a pitcher who's had a lot of success," Royals general manager Dayton Moore told the Kansas City Star. "He's somebody we're going to give an opportunity to compete for a job in spring training."
