Yomiuri Giants catcher Shinnosuke Abe re-signed with the club on Tuesday for an annual salary of ¥240 million — equaling a salary pay raise of ¥100 million.

The 28-year-old's salary is the most for a catcher currently playing in Japan.

Yomiuri's team captain batted .275 with 33 home runs and 101 RBIs in 140 games, helping lead the Giants to their first Central League title in five years in 2007. Next year, Abe has been selected as a member to play in the Beijing Olympics.

"We have the Olympics next year and I want to make sure I produce numbers I can be proud of," Abe said.
