OSAKA (Kyodo) The Hanshin Tigers said Wednesday they have acquired right-hander Scott Atchison while announcing the signing of a new salary deal with Jeff Williams, who was recently mentioned in the Mitchell Report on drug use in the major leagues.
Atchison, 31, agreed to terms with Hanshin after a season divided between the San Francisco Giants and Triple-A Fresno. His major league career also includes stints with the Seattle Mariners in 2004 and '05.
Details about the deal with Williams, who signed a two-year contract with the Tigers a year ago, were not disclosed. According to Hanshin officials, Williams has denied the use of performance-enhancing steroids.
