Newly hired St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Monday the team has declined a one-year option for outfielder So Taguchi. St. Louis, however, still has choices, which include trading the 38-year-old or renewing his contract before the deadline for arbitration in December. "We want to give ourselves as many options as we can, and by doing this we maintain a greater degree of flexibility," Mozeliak said. Taguchi would become a free agent if the club does not offer him arbitration. This year, Taguchi played on a one-year contract. St. Louis held a $1.1 million option for 2008 but decided to buy it out at $100,000.
