The Sendai 89ers defeated the host Toyama Grouses 100-87 in bj-league action on Friday night. Newcomers Nick DeWitz and Bobby St. Preux both scored 28 points for the 89ers, who opened their season with a 77-74 win over Toyama on Thursday. Sendai center Patrick Whearty had 19 points and 12 rebounds, while DeWitz also pulled down 11 boards. Point guard Hikaru Kusaka had 12 points and dished out four assists for the 89ers, who scored 63 second-half points. For the Grouses, shooting guard Robby Joyner produced a team-high 28 points, shooting guard Masayuki Kabaya had 17 points, center Uka Agbai added 16 and grabbed eight boards and Takanori Goya had a 10-point, six-assist outing.
