Chiba Lotte Marines closer Masahide Kobayashi made clear his intention of becoming a free agent this offseason as the filing period for the 68 players eligible for free agency began Friday. Kobayashi, who has 227 career saves, is to complete filing procedures by the Nov. 12 deadline, opening the way for the right-hander to negotiate with any teams in and outside Japan from Nov. 14. Hiroshima Carp right-hander Hiroki Kuroda is scheduled to file for free agency on Monday after revealing his plan to do so last month with an eye on pursuing a career in the major leagues. Chunichi Dragons outfielder Kosuke Fukudome and Hiroshima Carp infielder Takahiro Arai are among the other potential free agents whose moves are drawing close attention.
