Yomiuri Giants infielder Michihiro Ogasawara has ruled himself out of contention to play for Japan in the upcoming Asian qualifiers for the 2008 Beijing Olympics so that he can undergo surgery on his left knee, Yomiuri officials said Monday. "I wanted to compete as a member of the Japan national team but the results of the tests (on the knee) are worse than I expected," Ogasawara said in a statement issued by the Giants.
