Hanshin Tigers outfielder Tomoaki Kanemoto, holder of the record for playing in consecutive games without missing an inning, will undergo surgery on his injured left knee in the offseason, Hanshin manager Akinobu Okada said Wednesday. Kanemoto extended his streak of playing every inning of every game to 1,186 games. The streak began July 21, 1999, at the end of this year's regular season while he was playing with a painful knee he hurt in late June. "I hope the surgery will be successful for him to recover to a degree where he will be able to return to full action in the late stage of spring training games in March next year," Okada said of the 39-year-old veteran.
